SERVPRO of North Pensacola Repairs Damage from Fires in Ferry Pass

The Dark Side of Fire

Fires can provide light and warmth for campers, and many treats taste better cooked over a fire than they possibly could in the microwave. Fire, however, isn’t all romance and renewal.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) explains there are two broad categories of damage: primary (immediate) and secondary (delayed). Primary damage is that done by the fire itself. Secondary damage is done by the effects of the fire (such as smoke damage, or from the building interior being open to the elements) or from fire suppression (water or other suppressants).

SERVPRO of North Pensacola® is a Trusted Leader in Fire Damage Restoration for commercial, public, and residential buildings.

Call us at 850-466-3076 any time. Our emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Because delays cause additional disasters, it’s vital we are ready to start work as soon as it is safe to go into the structure.

What Fire Can Do

We’re all aware that fire can melt plastics and destroy wood, plaster, and textiles. Fire can do much more extensive damage, which is why NFPA recommends that only professionals with certification in restoration from fire damage assess and remediate the damage. At SERVPRO of North Pensacola, we have these certifications. We also have experience, and we keep up with continuing education.

Examples of Damage

Concrete

Fire can weaken concrete foundations and other concrete structures. The heat from the fire expands concrete; the cold from the water contracts concrete. Both the expansion and the contraction weaken structures.

Steel

“Strong as steel” doesn’t mean much against high temperatures. Steel’s rigidity decreases rapidly at temperatures above 200 degrees F, and its strength falls dramatically above 800 degrees. These temperatures are not extreme even in-house fires.

Caustic Smoke

Smoke can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory systems even when it doesn’t contain caustic chemicals. Plastics, insulation, and water-proofing materials are some of the materials that often contain substances that cause irritation and other problems.

Further, any kind of smoke can produce lingering odors, and stains from soot or smoke contain substances that corrode both hard and soft materials.

We have the training and equipment to permanently get rid of smoke, soot, and the lingering odors.
